These “deluxe” tubes have a better CRI of 85 and still offer high efficacy.

All fluorescents require a ballast to stabilize current and provide the initial striking voltage for the mercury arc discharge. Magnetic ballasts often generate a hum or buzzing noise. Electronic ballasts are quieter and eliminate this nuisance. In addition, some types of fluorescent lamps have integrated the auxiliary electronics into the base, which makes them compatible with standard light bulb sockets.
